I’m excited to share some great local events happening in March to get you out of the house and enjoying all that the Annapolis area has to offer this spring!
Mardi Gras – Sunday, March 3
Move over New Orleans! Mardi Gras is coming to Annapolis! This year the Downtown Annapolis Partnership is hosting the first-ever Mardi Gras at Market Space on Sunday, March 3. Delicious seafood specialities like crawfish boil, grilled oysters, shrimp gumbo and shrimp po-boys will be cooked on outside grills. And, it wouldn’t be Mardi Gras without Dixieland and zydeco music for dancing in the streets!
ChiliFest – Sunday March 10
Another first this year is the inaugural Friends of the Light House ChiliFest competition! The ChiliFest charity chili cook-off, held at the Double Tree Hotel, will feature local chefs from around Annapolis. If you love chili, then you won’t want to miss your chance to vote on the best chili in Naptown. And, you’ll be supporting the Light House Homeless Prevent Support Center in their effort to break the cycle of homeless in the Annapolis area.
Sock Burning – Saturday, March 23
It’s time to get out your sandals and flip flops! The locals know that spring is in the air when it’s time for the Annapolis Oyster Roast & Sock Burning in Eastport. This family-friendly event signals the arrival of boating season with the annual sock burning, live music and an oyster shucking contest. And, you’ll be helping the Annapolis Maritime Museum educate people about the area’s rich maritime history and the Chesapeake Bay.
Maryland Day Weekend – March 29-31
Happy Birthday, Maryland! To celebrate Maryland’s birthday, historic and cultural events will be held around the area all weekend. One of my favorites is the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market. On Saturday, March 30, you can take your family to pick up some fresh, local produce and handmade crafts.
