I’m Kristin Mrotek with the Annapolis Fine Homes office of Long & Foster. This is my video series, Covered by Kristin, where I cover local real estate news, people and events that may be of interest to you.

Today I’m here with Wendy Wright of The Wright Fit. Wendy, please introduce yourself and tell us about your business.

Wendy: Hey, Kristin! Thank you so much for having me! I love Covered by Kristin! That was awesome!

Kristin: Thank you!

Wendy: Kristin, as you know, we’ve known each other for a little while now, but what I do is, The Wright Fit helps women very much like us. Entrepreneurial, or retired, whatever! Women who just want to feel more authentic, but natural and beautiful in their own skin, right now!

Helping the Everyday Woman Find Her Style

I help the everyday woman find her style, especially if she hasn’t really known what it is. I do that through shopping and closet curating. I recently got certified in makeup, so I do makeup tutorials and what I call refreshers. Just to help everyone refresh their look with, generally, the makeup they own or affordable makeup. We might need to change things up if we haven’t done that in quite a few years, just to look a little bit brighter and refreshed. I’m loving doing that! It’s so much fun!

Kristin: Well, thank you! And, I love the concept. Many of us have found ourselves now working from home and attending these online Zoom meetings so I thought you might have some advice on how we can look our best and showcase our style, online from here-to-here.

Looking Your Best on a Zoom Call

Wendy: Absolutely, Kristin! One of the first things I would tell people is to get as much natural light into the meeting as possible! I’ve got a little help today because I’ve got a big window to my right, but to my left it’s kind of dark, so half of my face would be lit while the other half is in darkness. I don’t want that to happen, so I have my makeup light on behind me to try to even it out.

I don’t know if anyone ever watched Seinfeld, but there was a show where Jerry was dating a woman who looked great in great lighting, but if they were in a dark, secluded place, she didn’t look as great! It’s funny and it’s kind of true! So, try to find an area with really good natural lighting. If not, maybe bring a few lamps in to help out. That would be the first thing.

Then, Kristin, I would say whether someone wears makeup or not, wear a color that is really flattering on you. Wear a color that you feel beautiful in. Wear a color that might compliment, or be, the color of your eyes. Or, wear a color that you get compliments in. Like your necklace, Kristin, is blue, like your eyes are blue, so that’s going to help make your beautiful blue eyes pop a little bit. It compliments them. So, think about what you’re wearing because it does make a difference. It can brighten you! That’s what we’re looking for on camera.

Also, I would suggest wearing a little bit of makeup, because we want to even out the skin tone. Bad lighting is only going to enhance things that you may not love! I’m not going to say flaws. I don’t believe in that. But, things that you might be a little self conscious of. Most of us feel like we look the most tired under our eyes. So, I would suggest, if you have concealer, wear a little bit of concealer. Wear a little bit of foundation if you want to, where you need it to even out the skin tone. I would suggest lots of mascara, because that can help the eyes pop! And, possibly, if you want to go that far, line your eyes. I’m trying to keep it minimal. A little blush never hurts. I’m a big fan of a pretty, bright lip color. I don’t mean in-your-face, a natural bright. I brought this. This is just the NYX watermelon butter lip gloss that can give your lips just a little bit of pop and makes them look really pretty.

Wendy: Kristin, I love what you’ve got going on!

Kristin: Wendy gave me these tips in advance, so I was prepared!

Wendy: Ah-ha! It’s brighter than the last time we chatted. It’s very, very pretty! It’s subtle, but it’s got a little bit of a warm pink brightness, and I love it!

Kristin: Thank you!

Wendy: I think those things are important if you want to look great on camera.

Kristin: Those are great tips, Wendy! I think it boils down to just trying to look our best as though we were going out to meet someone in person for a meeting, just trying to put our best self forward, so that’s really great advice.

I have had the opportunity to work with Wendy on some clothing, accessories and fashions. I really find that working with Wendy helps save me time and money. Right now, with all of this work that we’re doing online, the last thing I really want to do when I have some free time is get back online to do some shopping.

Wendy has been really helpful to me in putting together some outfits behind-the-scenes that I can just purchase myself when I’m ready. So, can you tell us a little bit about those services that you offer?

Scouting for Your Custom Curations

Wendy: Absolutely, Kristin! Actually, with your brilliance, you helped my design “Custom Curations” which is all about doing what you just said.

For those of us that don’t love to shop, especially online, I will do the scouting and legwork for you. Kristin, I would do this at the same stores where I would take people shopping physically, which are stores like Kohl’s, Loft, Old Navy, possibly JC Penney, Target, maybe Talbot’s.

I will go to those sites after we have had a consultation because I have to learn about you. I need to see you, if possible. I need to learn your approximate sizes, your coloring, what your style personality is. That’s very, very important for me to customize these outfits for you.

So, we have a consultation and then I get to work, going to different sites and trying to find affordable pieces and putting them together for you in a nice, concise styleboard to give you an idea of what could work for you, along with prices and which store the piece comes from. It will give you ideas all in one place. You can tap on a link, go look at that item, check out the price, and you can purchase it on your own, if you so desire.

Kristin: I love those styleboards! It takes away all of the guesswork! I love it! I appreciate that you spend your time, and your talent, putting those together for me.

For those of us who would like to use your services and find out a little bit more about what you do, how can we find you? Wendy: You can find me on my web site, which is www.thewrightfit.net and I think you’re going to put some information out, is that right?

Kristin: Yes, I’ll include that at the end of this video so everyone can find you and learn more about your services and take advantage of what you have to offer for us.

Wendy: Thank you so much! I really, really appreciate the opportunity! I appreciate that you truly helped me get this started. I can do anything via Skype! I have something called “Simply Skype”. We can do closet edits and makeup tutorials! This has been in the back of my mind for awhile, but I wasn’t sure how to do it. The fact that I do the scouting, but then you take it from there, it’s so simple for me, Kristin. Thank you so much!

Kristin: You’re welcome! It was a win-win for both of us! I really appreciate you being on my Covered by Kristin video series! I look forward to seeing you in person soon, Wendy!

Take care!

Bye!
